B stands for Breath
You can use your breath to calm yourself, for increased energy, to support exercise, to reduce anxiety, and to aid in recovery and healing. Your breath is the most readily available “tool” that you possess to powerfully connect to the self in every way. It is simultaneously one of the most misunderstood and underused natural body functions. When you breathe well, you feel well.
M stands for Move
The purpose of your physical body is to move. When you move well, it directly impacts your internal systems such as the movement of blood, lymphatic fluid, hormones, nutrients, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and cellular energy. Movement also helps to build and preserve bone mass, burn calories, and impacts your “get up and go” energy … it can sharpen memory, have a meditative effect, promote focus, be anti-aging, and immune-boosting. Movement not only improves mood, sleep quality, and feelings of well-being, but also helps combat anxiety, depression, and insomnia.
F stands for Fuel
What you eat and drink can be either the most nourishing and powerful form of fuel or the most depleting and toxic form of poison … it is your choice. If you know that food is harming you and the world, why would you still choose to eat it? Kind food and drink can satisfy all of your needs and wants … foods can be both enjoyable and good for your health. When you fuel yourself “completely”, you will feel fit, energized, and bright. Fuelling “well” also includes surrounding yourself with healthy relationships, supportive community, and practising self-care.
R stands for Rest
In today’s fast-paced world, it is getting harder and harder to carve out periods of time for rest and recovery. Resting well is essential to your day-to-day balance, longevity, and caring for yourself. The practice of healthful and purposeful rest will ultimately take you to a place of a greater, fuller understanding of who you are. It will teach you how to trigger the mind’s relaxation response, which shifts you out of a sympathetic state and into a parasympathetic state, initiating healing and restoration.
C stands for Connect
Your days demand that you move through varying states of being. It’s common to go from meditating to intense physical workouts and from stressful meetings to relaxed family time. You need to be able to manage this so you are able to function optimally and find balance at all times. Being connected to everything in your life will prepare you to successfully manage your body, mind, and soul, and everyday life.
