Senses allow you to observe and understand the world around you. Sight, touch, smell, taste, and hearing are the five primary ways you can experience this. We believe in including a sixth sense … intuition (with your gut and energetically with your third eye), which gives you a complete understanding of your experiences and keeps you connected to your activities.
Your senses send messages through receptor cells to your brain using your Body Network (nervous system) to deliver messages. You use all of your senses at the same time – it is imperative to your wellness that you use a Heightened Mindset so that they complement and work in sync with each other.
Sight. Your eyes are used to visually take in and understand your surroundings. Without eyesight, it is impossible to visually detect or experience pleasure and keep you safe in your surroundings. Sight allows you to see colour, which has a significant impact on your emotions and perceptions, your spiritual, mental, and physical wellness, and your Kinesiosphere. When you understand the power of sight, you can connect to and appreciate its presence in your everyday life and leverage it to enhance your moods, feelings, behaviours, and movements.
Touch. The skin gives your brain a wealth of information about the natural environment including temperature, humidity, and air pressure. The sense of touch allows you to feel physical pain and is a necessity for avoiding injury, disease, and danger. The response to touch can offer you a more balanced nervous system. Did you know that when a hug lasts 20 seconds or more, there can be a therapeutic effect on the body, mind, and soul?
Smell. Did you know that you can sense over one trillion different smells? Your sense of smell allows you to detect odours in your surroundings (air quality!) and on others, all of which can influence your mood and well-being. Your nose can affect your connection to joy, fear, disgust, the taste of food, and even sexual arousal. Your sense of smell is a most important element of everyday experience and helps you to enjoy life.
Taste. The tongue, your taste receptor, can differentiate among sweet, salty, bitter, and sour. This is known to be the most pleasurable of the senses. Sensory responses to your food choices trigger and create memories. Your taste sensors are highly trainable and adaptable, which is helpful for understanding that nutritional lifestyle changes are possible. In order to fuel your body well, rely on the powerful interaction between aroma, intuition, and taste.
Hearing. Hearing comes from sound waves that vibrate through the air to the inner ear, which causes the movement of fluids and hair cells to send signals up the auditory nerve to be interpreted as sound by the brain. Soothing sounds can manage depression and anxiety, enhance attention and focus, affect all dimensions of wellness, improve sleep, stimulate brain function, accelerate healing and recovery, and contribute to personal growth, transformation and self-awareness.
Intuition. Intuition is a very real ability that can be identified and visualized by the brain and is said to balance out the other five senses. When you rely on your intuition, you will develop the ability to become your own best expert.
