What’s on your plate really matters.
As a society, we spend so much time and energy focusing on the foods and caloric content that we put into our bodies … we should be spending this energy on increasing our connection to what these choices are doing to us. And by “us”, we are referring not only to our bodies, but to our economy and the overall wellness of our planet.
Food is a sensitive issue… it is highly personal. There are so many experts, diets, and trends and almost too much advice when it comes to how you eat … make sure you listen to yourself, you are your own best expert!
We agree with Ryan Storm that, “part of taste is feeling good about what you eat”. What does that mean? It means that if you can trace your food back to where it came from and feel good about it, then you should enjoy. It is about creating your own food guidelines… your connection to the food, and the good (or harm) it is doing, and how it makes you feel.
As Anne Wigmore says, “The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison.” There are foods available for us that are immensely enjoyable AND good for our health and wellness. If you know that food is harming you, why would you still choose to eat it?
People often say to us, “I don’t know how you do it, it is so hard to eat well all of the time”… it is simply a choice we make … the effort and rewards actually make us feel really good about what we are doing for the greater good and for ourselves. Change is change, and at first it can be uncomfortable… doing something new and different can sometimes feel complicated, but you will actually be simplifying things. There are “good foods” that can satisfy all of your needs and you will never feel restricted… in fact, you will feel energized and well.
When you eat according to The Kind Food Manifesto, Kind Food Guidelines and the Kind Food Plate, you will be nourishing your physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, social, environmental, and financial wellness … all dimensions. You will notice people telling you that you “seem so well”! Eat in an undefined way, so that you can make creative and healthy decisions for yourself that satisfy your cravings, likes and lifestyle. There is nothing restrictive about Kind Food!
Focus more on how you nourish yourself, realizing that everything you consume in your lifetime leaves a legacy. The quality of your food supply is dependent on the consistency of what you eat.
